AllMusic Review by Scott Yanow Steve Wilson is a fine altoist, soprano-saxophonist, and flutist who gained some recognition for his playing with Chick Corea. Surprisingly his date for Maxjazz often finds Wilson acting as a sideman behind the vocals of Carla Cook, Phillip Manual, or Rene Marie. Only five of the 13 selections are instrumentals and that is a pity, for Wilson is in excellent form whenever he gets the opportunity to stretch out. Wilson wrote that on this set he wanted to capture the freshness and diversity of early-1970s music. Unfortunately, the material is not all that memorable, many of the vocals are mundane and only the solos of Wilson and pianist-keyboardist Bruce Barth hold one's interest.
