Nr kat.: FL72401
Label  : FineLine (Holandia)

This cd is the first release on Fine Line Classics. This new midprice label, marketed and distributed by Challenge Records, presents young Dutch talents in the field of classical music. On this album Izhar Elias pays tribute to Guadagnini: almost all the works were performed on a historical instrument, an original guitar from 1812 (a’ = 430) made by Carlo Guadagnini (1768–1816) Izhar Elias (Amsterdam, 1977) studied guitar with Ton Terra from the age of seven. At the Conservatory of Groningen he studied with Erik Westerhof and Remco de Haan (Groningen Guitar Duo) and with Zoran Dukic at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. In 2002 he finished his second phase studies with a distinction and the Nicolaï prize. Elias studied at the Accademia di Studi Superiori l’Ottocento with Carlo Barone in Italy (performance practice of 19th century music). He got interpretation lessons from the violinist Kees Hendrikse. He participated in master classes with Hubert Käppel, David Russell and Roberto Aussel. Elias has been awarded with many prizes: Princess Christina Competition, National Competition for Young Guitarists, Competition of the Dutch Institute for Young Music Talents, Competition Printemps de la Guitare and the Tromp Music Competition. Many concerts followed in The Netherlands as well as abroad: Japan, Australia, Italy, Spain, France, Norway and Estonia. And he performed with renowned orchestras such as The Hague Philharmonic Orchestra, the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra dell’Accademia l’Ottocento and the Joven Orquesta Nacional de España. With regard to his specialisation of authentic interpretation of early 19th century music, he is regularly invited to play at (inter)national festivals, such as the Holland Festival Early Music and the Darwin International Guitar Festival in Australia. This cd is the first release on Fine Line Classics. This new midprice label, marketed and distributed by Challenge Records, presents young Dutch talents in the field of classical music. On this album Izhar Elias pays tribute to Guadagnini: almost all the works were performed on a historical instrument, an original guitar from 1812 (a’ = 430) made by Carlo Guadagnini (1768–1816). This unusual guitar has a very singing timbre. The delicate construction of the instrument allows for an enormous range of timbres and nuances. One of the consequences of this is the outstandingly expressive way in which bel canto melodies come alive. Compositions by the following guitar virtuosos and composers Mauro Giuliani (Italy 1781–1829), Fernando Sor (Spain 1778–1839), Josef Kaspar Mertz (Hungary 1804–1856) and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (Italy 1895–1968). Quotes on Elias ‘Izhar Elias is the perfect advocate of 19th century repertoire, which now gradually gets the authentic interpretation it deserves.’ (Holland Festival Early Music 2004) ‘Fantastic musicality, highly developed sense of style, elegance and allure.’ (Jury of the Tromp Music Competition 1998)
