This lady simply gets better; considering that she was pretty damn good when she first appeared on the recording scene that adds up to a lot. There is a wonderful sense of maturity both in the sound of her voice and the interpretation she brings to her songs. The repertoire is excellent, blending new and old with ease, light-hearted and serious without being either flippant or portentous. The accompaniment, Anglo-American as it is on this New York date, is very good indeed with nice solo spots from horns and piano. Most readers will, by now, have heard Martin either on record or live and need have no second thoughts about adding this to their collection. those of you who have yet to hear her have a treat in store. Excellent sound. Recommended. Jazz Journal International
