After a succesfull 16 years career as leader of the Concertgebouw Orchestra, Jaap van Zweden has already conducted two main Dutch orchestras and will be assigned to Edo de Waart’s job as artistic leader of both Dutch Radio Orchestras. Van Zweden knows George Pieterson very well, because the latter has been the solo clarinet player in the Concertgebouw Orchestra for many years. Both skillful musicians play their socks off in Brahms’s clarinet quintet which is already one of the master’s most beautiful and soulful works. The Amsterdam Saxophone Quartet assists Van Zweden in a special arrangement for violin and saxophone quartet of 22 songs from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein. Two major works on one mid-price cd ! Can one ask for more ?
