Digitally remastered by Phil De Lancie (1995, Fantasy Studios, Berkeley, California). After a late night session for Chet Baker in 1959, producer Orrin Keepnews persuaded pianist Bill Evans, bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Philly Joe Jones to stick around and lay down a few tracks as a trio. The result was the stunning ON GREEN DOLPHIN STREET, an album that somehow waited more than a decade for its release. The three had spent a good deal of time together in 1958 as Miles Davis' rhythm section and displayed their highly developed interplay on some of Davis' repertoire including "Woody'n You" and the title track. Evans' legendary pastel style is in fine form as he gently rolls through the opening "You And The Night And The Music" with cascading chords in the left hand and swirling melodies in the right. Of special note, included after the '59 studio session is a live "All Of You" from the famed Village Vanguard sessions of June 1961 with Evans' greatest trio, including Scott LaFaro (bass) and Paul Motian (drums).
