When Arturo Toscanini heard her for the first time in 1946, he labelled her ”Voce d’angelo” (Voice of an angel). Thus began the myth of Renata Tebaldi, the singer who, in the second half of the 1900s, perhaps better than anyone else represented the perfect example of Italian soprano. This double CD of Istituto Discografico Italiano offers a wide selection of Tebaldi’s interpretations from the years 1949-1953, when the young singer from Pesaro asserted herself on the international scene thanks to her extraordinarily consistent and pure voice, which captivated audiences throughout the world.
