Culture Musical Club Of Zanzibar

Taj Mahal is an adventurer with taste. The veteran American bluesman has long been fascinated by African styles, and has explored the links with the blues through his recordings with Toumani Diabate or live collaborations with Tinariwen. Now he has moved from Mali to Zanzibar, to team up with the island's best-known orchestra, and provide a reminder that there is great music in east Africa too. The Culture Musical Club are an intriguing, rhythmic and stately acoustic band. They mix violins with hand-drums and the oud, the Arabic lute, with the zither-like qanun in songs that are influenced by Arabic and Asian as well as African styles. They are a world removed from Mahal's robust blues trio, and at first the two sides cautiously explore each other's music, with the Club providing atmospheric bursts of gently wailing violins and the visitor playing suitably Arabic-edged banjo on their sturdy songs. Then the two sides move together, and by the time the qanun breaks into Catfish Blues, the legendary Bikidude, now in her 90s, tackles Done Changed My Way of Living, or the Club tackle Mahal's witty M'Banjo, the result is far more than musical tourism. https://www.theguardian.com/music/2005/feb/11/popandrock.shopping7 Taj Mahal- w naszej ofercie
