One of the leading Japanese jazz pianists, Mikio Masuda has played with many prominent musicians including Terumasa Hino and Sadao Watanabe. During his stay in the United States in 1974 and 1975, he was a member of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. Recorded in 1996 after a seven year hiatus, Black Daffodils is considered by many as Masuda's towering achievement. Supported and inspired by the superb rhythm section comprising of Ron Carter and Lewis Nash, Masuda shows his beautiful touch, rich ideas and deep emotions
