"We met by accident. I had started to think about how to move on after my début with "Rhythm With A Pinch of Something". The reception had been fantastic. One idea had taken root in me - vocal jazz. In Swedish with lyrics that really mean something. The trio was booked to play at the municipal art gallery in Malmö. Lars had engaged a singer whom I did not know - as yet. After a few numbers I realized that he had found my ideal singer. She had an absolutely perfect feeling for words and the timing was there too. As well as a sense of playfulness. I immediately asked her if she would like to record a disc with the trio. She welcomed the offer. Writing the songs went very rapidly and Elin had the task of trying out my first drafts - which were not always such a success. When the music felt right we sent them off to our wonderful writing team for the lyrics. Anna and Annalena gave words to what I was trying to say in music. This mixture of Swedish/French swinging jazz was then refined together with Martin and Lars. It's magical. And here is the result. These are the Deep Breaths." (Jean-Simon Maurin) The Jean-Sion Maurin Trio made its recording début in 2006 with Rhythm With A Pinch Of Something (Prophone Records PCD 084) Selected press comments: "Pianist Jean-Simon Maurin is one of the most convincing Swedish debutants that I have heard in several years." (Svenska Dagbladet) "The performance was totally convincing trio jazz with creative and inspirational piano playing against a background provided by a singularly competent comp duo"..."But, above all, there is a powerful and passionate expression..." (Orkester Journalen) Elin Wrede is a comparatively new name on the Swedish jazz scene. With jazz pianist Jan Lundgren she has performed concerts at some of Sweden's leading jazz venues. Critic Jan Olson, Skĺnska Dagbladet, wrote on 14th August 2008: "Elin Wrede caused the audience to rejoice... she is really, really good. It will surprise me greatly if she does not become a big name in jazz in the next year or so - and not just in Sweden."
