The musical climate had changed dramatically from the days Eric Clapton had topped the charts in the '70s and by the time the '80s rolled around he obviously understood it was time to modernize his sound. After signing with Warner Bros. in 1983, Clapton released his ninth solo album Behind The Sun two years later in 1985. Backed by a line-up of stellar musicians - Steve Lukather, Jeff Porcaro, Jamie Oldaker, Nathan East and Greg Phillinganes - and with producers Lenny Waronker, Rod Templeman and Phil Collins in tow, the comeback set's instant success marked his return to the music charts after a five year absence. For the first time in years, Clapton now had a couple of Top 40 hits with album standouts "Forever Man" and "See What Love Can Do." He didn't abandon his old music, he just blended it more effectively and brought the flavor up to date by mastering the more electronic sound of '80s radio. Although Behind The Sun had a heavy soul flavor with a really well produced version of Eddie Floyd's "Knock On Wood," Clapton still remained true to his blues roots with the brilliant eight-minute cut "Same Old Blues," which contains some of his most electrifying guitar work of the era. EC's vocals also display a rich newfound depth here, like whiskey aged to perfection, amidst blistering guitar solos, a high octane R&B beat and a slick synthesizer-backed production that was well-suited for the pop-rock market. The release found the Guitar God reinventing himself yet again and serenading a new generation of admirers and fans alike. GWARANCJA SZCZEGÓLNEJ JAKOŚCI AUDIOFILSKIEJ:
