Vivaldi dedicated two collections of concertos to Emperor Charles VI, both entitled La Cetra, a symbol of the Habsburgs' love for music. The first one was published in Amsterdam in the autumn of 1727 as Op. 9. The second collection is kept as original manuscripts in Vienna, and includes, like the first one, 12 concertos, written in separate parts (violins, violas and basso continuo). Our disc is precisely featuring some of the composer's finest concertos included in the autograph collection. Two, in particular, are outstanding works: the Concerto No. 2 in C Major and the Concerto No. 11 in E minor, also known as "Il Favorito", with Nos. 3, 4, 5 and 10 standing not very far behind.
