After the success of the first volume dedicated to Turina's Sonatas for violin and piano (Dynamic CDS 208), Felix Ayo and Bruno Canino offer us this new intense anthology of works by the composer from Seville. The pieces featured, all composed between 1924 and 1945, blend elements of Spanish folklore with the more cultured European late-romantic tradition, with results that are often very interesting. El poema de una Sanluqueña (an inspired fantasy in four movements), in particular, brings together multicoloured influences, effectively consolidated within a vitalizing formal structure. The program also features Enrique Granados's Sonata for violin and piano, a single movement composition.
