Album Remarks & Appraisals: "...His [Victor Martin's] tone is beautiful, his vibrato fast enough and well modulated, his intonation flawless...His style seems patterned after Heifetz and similar early 20th Century tonalists. Anyway, these highly melodic works of folk song-like simplicity are lovely and played with great care and affection here...Martin distinguishes himself, and Miguel Zanetti shows that he is much more than a mere accompanist." -Magil, ARG Album Notes: Violinist Víctor Martín and pianist Miguel Zanetti sing with one voice in these enchanting performances of the nostalgia-bathed music of Eduard Toldrá and Joaquín Turina. This duo gives a finely etched and rhythmically incisive performance of Turina's 'Poema'--a brooding, suggestive work by this early 20th century Sevillian master. But it is Toldrá's evocative 'Sis sonets' and the performances they here receive that will undoubtedly be, for most listeners, the delightful discovery of this recording. Turina's Catalan contemporary, Toldrá was also an accomplished violinist, and his writing for that instrument is consistently marked by idiomatic grace. The same can be said of the Martín/Zanetti performance of this work. They combine a clean, elegant sound with nimbly expressive readings for truly memorable results. This recording make a case for the performance and recording of much more of Toldrá's music, which is a distinctively lyrical art. (hbdirect.com)
