A Musical Menagerie from America's Golden Age
From Personal Reflections on the Music by George Foreman. Almost everyone loves animals. . . . Not surprisingly, composers have given us numerous musical depictions of animals. During the last decades of the 19th century and the early part of the 20th, the era known as the the "Golden Age of American Bands," dozens of animal related band pieces appeared. A few choice selections from that musical menagerie make up this recording. Included are several familiar pieces as well as some rediscovered gems. Our great-grandparents might have tapped their toes to any of them at a Sunday afternoon band concert in the park. I think they still retain all of their appeal today.
