David Oistrakh Collection Vol. 1

As the most loved and being one the greatest violin soloists in history, David Oistrakh was also remarkably busy performing and recording chamber music. Other great soloists were active in chamber music, but not many in whose life it was of such essential importance as it was for David Oistrakh. Throughout his career he regularly performed and recorded in numerous combinations, from the duo to the octet, and for many years led the David Oistrakh Trio and the David Oistrakh Quartet. Oistrakh’s playing had the utmost excitement, charm and grace, tempered with nobility and a powerful yet warm singing tone. Oistrakh’s chamber or concerto partners, have described his astonishing ability as a musical collaborator: Without ever losing any of his individuality, he could perfectly blend with other musicians who played in a completely different or contrasting style. Conductor George Szell wrote to David Oistrakh: “There is no musician today that I respect more than you, nobody with whom I feel more “at home” and with whom I feel so strongly that we are one heart and soul.” Presented here, in the first DOREMI CD devoted to Oistrakh: Shostakovich trio with Shostakovich himself on the piano, and string quartets by Tchaikovsky and Schubert. All first time on CD. Recorded 1946
