Burmester: Incredible Audiophile Sound Selection is a 12-track album that features classical music selections conducted by James DePreist. Tracks include works from composers such as Bizet, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, Rachmaninoff, and more. James Anderson DePreist (November 21, 1936 - February 8, 2013) was one of the first African-American conductors and National Medal of Arts winner. He was the Director Emeritus of Conducting and Orchestral Studies at The Juilliard School and Laureate Music Director of the Oregon Symphony. DePreist has significant presence in the recording arena with more than 50 recordings to his credit. His extensive recorded repertoire includes a celebrated Shostakovich series with the Helsinki Philharmonic and 17 recordings during his 23 years with the Oregon Symphony, which helped transform the orchestra from a small, part-time orchestra to a nationally recognized group. As a guest conductor, DePreist has appeared with every major North American orchestra and internationally he has conducted in over 20 countries and cities.
