The sonatas recorded here focus on the variety and orginality of their harmony, one of the aspects of Scarlatti's works of greatest impact on the listener. There is much debate over what instrument these works were intended for, but the fortepiano is not an unlikely candidate. Marco Farolfi plays a fortepiano modeled after one by Anton Walter as well as a harpsichord after Taskin.
