Volume Three of the Golden Age of Singing spans the decade which saw the death of Caruso and the birth of the electric recording. As John Steane, the eminent historian of the human voice on record, writes in his extensive sleeve notes, the purpose of these discs is to "revive old recordings by the best singers of the early twentieth century and to bring them back to life in sound which the general public, and not only the specialists, can enjoy".
