The operas of Ildebrando Pizzetti (1880-1968) are quite unknown to the current opera-going public. Although he composed 13 of them, and several enjoyed a certain popularity in Italy, they are never seen on stage now. No recordings of the operas were made in the studio; what we have comes from radio broadcasts. The composer wrote most of his librettos, adapting Figlia di Iorio, his tenth opera (Naples, 1954), from Gabriele D'Annunzio's play (1904).
