In November of 2000, two of the founding members of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and some of their friends got together on the stage at the historic Fox Theater in Hanford, California to record this ground breaking DVD-Audio/Video disc. With only unamplified acoustic instruments in hand and their voices to support themselves, they sat in a circle, played bluegrass music and traditional folk tunes all day for cameras and high-resolution recording equipment. The MLP 5.1 channel surround mix immerses the listener in the sound of mandolin, guitar, fiddle, banjo and harmonizing vocals. Listers can select an "audience", "stage" or "stereo" mix while viewing multiple camera angle video. Instrumentals and lots of singing were the order of the day, capped by two songs by master songwriter and singer Jennifer Warnes!. "The sound is rich and warm yet very detailed. The surround effects seem entirely natural and are not startling. One feels like an audience member granted a seat on stage with the performers. " Rad Bennett - Ultra Audio If you only buy one DVD in your life, this is the one! April 24, 2002 Reviewer: Kent Oden from Newhall, CA United States After listening to the music of John McEuen for 35 years, I have learned that it just continues to get better with each concert and with each recording. When I purchased the DVD, I did not have the capability to listen to the 5.1 surround sound. I admit it sounded great. However, I actually purchased the equipment for 5.1 just to listen to this DVD at its best. It was well worth the money. The sound in unbeatable. Jim Ibbotson is terrific, maybe at his best. The multiple camera angles are a great feature, as well as the interviews. It is great to see John and Ibby team up with the String Wizards. My recommendation is to buy everything that is associated with Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, John McEuen, Jim Ibbotson and Jonathan McEuen. However, start by buying two copies of this DVD - you will certainly wear one out from repeated use (yes, I have two myself). My only frustration is that I cannot find the words to convey how great this DVD really is.
