Italian keyboardist Davide Pozzi, who also trained as an organist at the Verdi Conservatoire in Milan, does not just play the two different instruments as a self-aggrandizing exercise in versatility. He is skilled enough to present the music with the kind of variation that the composer himself may have experienced; relying on rhythmic flexibility to deliver expression on the harpsichord, while exploiting the dynamic range and wider tonal palette of the fortepiano to bring the music alive with equal power, if different means. Pozzi is also careful to research the instruments intended by the composer. I have to take it on faith that his diligence has led him to the proper keyboards. Certainly, his vibrant and thoughtful playing is vindication enough. I found these performances to be revelatory, putting C. P. E. Bach in an entirely new light for me."
