A recording session is a perfect mirror of these performers, their temparements and European background. French, Romanian, Dutch and German flow back and forth freely during musical discussions, occasionally heated, often poetic. Tapping into musical inheritances from Bucharest and London through Salzburg and Paris, this quartet began in 1987 with four separate performers whose common dream was to create a new quartet with a cognizance of formal musical structure married with the style and expression of the best European traditions. Not wanting to be confined by stylistic pigeon holes or musical fads, their repertoire covers music from Haydn to Ligeti and Brahms to Willem Jeths.
