The nineteenth century was a period of growing fascination in the folklore of the British Isles. Several music publishers therefore had the idea of entrusting some highly regarded composers with making settings of traditional songs. Haydn and Beethoven are responsible for over 300 of these songs. Austrian baritone Wolfgang Holzmair and the Trio Wanderer obviously delight in these pieces and this is a hugely enjoyable release.
