It is not tense but relaxed, flowing, soft and incredible subtle.” Adriana Hölszky Schubert’s “Great” C major Symphony No. 8 is not a farewell work in which the composer’s approaching end is announced; on the contrary, it is a symphony full of youthful freshness and determination pointing ahead into the future. It is Schubert’s breakthrough to an independent symphonic concept beyond Beethoven’s charged drama and monumentality. The Symphony No. 3 in D major belongs to Schubert’s youthful works. The breathtaking speed of its composition bears witness to ease of invention; the young Schubert’s already outstanding level of craftsmanship skilfully combines traditional aspects of Haydn and Mozart with the lightness of Italian opera . With the present SACD audite continues the series of historical recordings with Rafael Kubelik and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. It is a live recording of concerts in the Herkules-Hall in Munich from 1969 and 1977. At the same time, the SACD marks the beginning of the new audite series "LISTEN & COMPARE": Alongside the restored archive recording in digital form made by the recording engineer, the SACD productions in this series also contain the completely unrevised historical recording in its original state. For the first time the listener thus has the possibility of comparing the original with the restoration himself. Seria LISTEN & COMPMARE jest szalenie interesującym przedsięwzięciem a zarazem wielkim wyzwaniem dla nowoczesnej techniki, konfrontowanej a dokumentarnością nagrania. Oto otrzymują Państwo płytę, która na ścieżce podstawowej zawiera zreamsterowaną wersję nagrania. Na warstwie SACD - także na nowo opracowana, zremasterowana wersja nagrania, w standardzie SACD, ale także - na ścieżce SACD - pełna analogowa wersja pierwszego zapisu. Innymi słowy - materiał z taśmy- matki, surowy, bez najmniejszych ingerencji współczesnej techniki. I tu zaczyna się problem. Które nagranie jest lepsze? Którego brzmienie jest bardziej naturalne? Czy współczesna technika potrafi wzbogacić, uwypuklić, wzmocnić efekt artystyczny? Na pytania te nie da się odpowiedzieć bez posłuchania.
