AllMusic Review by Scott Yanow This CD from the Japanese DIW label, which was made available domestically for a time by Columbia, is not really world music, but advanced hard bop. Pianist Geoff Keezer, a member of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers at the time, teams up with bassist James Genus, drummer Tony Reedus and sometimes percussionist Rudy Bird on a high-quality set of swinging modern mainstream music. The set ranges from "It's Only a Paper Moon" and "Black and Tan Fantasy" to "Black Is the Color of My True Love's Hair" and originals by Keezer, Thad Jones, Mulgrew Miller and James Williams. A fine release worth searching for.
