>>> Większa okładka A <<< For over 60 years vibraphonist, drummer, pianist, composer, and bandleader Terry Gibbs has brought energy, creativity and excitement to a stage, whether he’s playing swing, bebop, or a ballad. Born Julius Gubenko in Brooklyn, New York in 1924, Gibbs grew up in a musical family. He played with his father’s group, the Radio Novelty Orchestra, at weddings and bar mitzvahs, and even won the Major Boles Amateur Hour at age twelve. Gibbs once aspired to be a boxer. But through music he combines the same speed and manual dexterity with his keen sense of melody and harmony. A veteran of the swing band era Terry quickly absorbed the new sounds of Be Bop becoming a regular on the 52nd Street scene in the 1940s. Over the years he’s performed with all the greats of jazz, was musical director for Steve Allen TV show and has co-led a band with clarinet master Buddy DeFranco as well as his famous Terry Gibbs Dream Band. For his Iridium engagement Terry will be celebrating the grand master of the vibes, Lionel Hampton performing music from his new Mack Avenue release From Me To You, A Tribute To Lionel Hampton. Terry’s autobiography, Good Vibes, A Life In Jazz was just published by Scarecrow Press.
