Schön ist die Welt (“The World Is Beautiful”) is perhaps the most significant of Lehár’s creations to have escaped the recorded revival of his works in the late 1960s and 1970s (undertaken almost entirely by EMI). It was especially beloved by its composer, who reckoned the second act among his finest creations. A more or less complete radio studio performance with dialogue from 1942, with Lehár himself conducting the Vienna Philharmonic, was released a few years ago on the Bel Age label (BLA 103.353). Wer das will, ist aber mit dieser alten Rundfunkaufnahme sehr gut bedient. Die technischen Mängel sind verständlich und zu verschmerzen. Die gesanglichen Leistungen vor allem von Adele Kern und Anton Dermota sind sehr gut. Die Dialoge sind vielleicht zu breit geraten, das ist aber Geschmackssache
